A common decoding layer separates radio hardware and message processing from the radar user interface.
THE ENGINE INSIDE
libadsb-reader
One reader layer. Generations of ADS-B hardware.
libadsb-reader is the hardware abstraction and decoding core behind ADS-B Radar. It gives the application a common stream of prepared aircraft messages while hiding the differences between receiver generations and interfaces.
Classic hardware such as the Kinetic SBS-1 and AirNav RadarBox can live beside modern RTL-SDR receivers. SDRplay support is also part of the evolving receiver layer.
Why a dedicated reader layer?
Receiver devices differ in interfaces, data formats and connection behaviour. The reader abstracts these differences and prepares aircraft messages for the radar. This makes it easier to evolve the interface independently of supported hardware.
Local processing and receiver feeds
Reception and decoding are local. An optional feeder component can forward received aircraft information to external services, but sharing is not required to use the radar. The reader is developed separately and has its own source and documentation.
